Ecoplastomer® spray-coating: achieving superior adhesion with less material consumption

Spray coating with Ecoplastomers

In our efforts to develop environmentally sustainable manufacturing methods, we study spray-coating metal objects with circular 100% PCR content thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs).

In this experiment, a metal step was coated with Ecoplastomer® PP 70.

The trial showed that this method is effective for the use of Ecoplastomers, with promising results including excellent adhesion and reduced material consumption.

This could be a potential breakthrough in eco-friendly spray-coating processes.

Promising results from initial tests

The experiment showed that Ecoplastomer® sprays very well, with excellent adhesion and coverage.

“One significant advantage we observed was the lower consumption of 8-13% of materials compared to traditional polyolefins. This reduction in material usage not only saves costs but also minimizes waste, aligning with our sustainability goals,”

said Katarzyna Pokwicka-Croucher, Founder and CEO of Ecopolplast.

Benefits of spray-coating with circular 100% recycled content TPE

Spray-coating with Ecoplastomer® offers several advantages:

  • Enhanced protection: post-consumer recycled TPE coatings provide strong protection for metal products against external factors such as humidity and temperature fluctuations, making them ideal for outdoor and industrial applications.
  • Sustainability: The use of TPEs, made from 100% recycled plastic and tyre rubber crumb, supports the circular economy by utilizing recycled materials, thereby reducing the overall environmental impact of manufacturing processes.
  • Cost-effectiveness: The lower material consumption translates to cost savings, making TPE spray-coating an economically viable option for manufacturers.

Applications and future potential

Our innovative TPEs are versatile and can be applied to various metal products that require protective coatings. Items such as steps, railings, and other industrial components, especially those used in offshore applications, can benefit from the enhanced durability and environmental resistance provided by TPE coatings.

As we continue to refine this technology, we anticipate expanding its applications across different sectors.

Conclusion

The initial tests of spray-coating metal objects with recycled TPEs have shown significant promise. Fully circular TPE spray-coating demonstrates excellent spraying properties, reduced material usage, and superior protection, making it an innovative and sustainable solution.

By integrating recycled TPEs into your coating processes, you can improve product durability and reinforce your commitment to environmental stewardship.
